A family have marked a year since the passing of the 'proudest and most wonderful of Cornishmen' in this week's death and funeral notices. John Charles Burrow died on July 21, 2023 and is missed by all who knew him.

Announcing the passing of a loved one in local news media is a long standing tradition and we are proud of the trust placed in us to make these important announcements. Every notice published to our newspaper and news site also appears on funeral-notices.co.uk - the UK’s number one site for death notices and memoriams. Every notice remains online forever providing friends and families with a lifelong tribute to their loved one, a safe place online to share memories, add tributes, photographs and make donations in memory.

Each week we pay tribute to the loved ones remembered in our area with a funeral notice and online tribute page. To read the latest announcements and add tributes to those from our area who have passed away, or to create a funeral notice yourself, click here . Alternatively, you can create a notice by calling our helpful team on 01482 908084.

John Charles BURROW
John Charles BURROW

This is a short passage to mark a year since the passing of the Proudest and most Wonderful of Cornishmen that was John Charles Burrow who passed away on July 21, 2023, written by his proud son, Nick. He was so adored by me and my sister, Jo, and he was so much fun to be around, he was wonderful.

I am slowly turning into him, I have to say, with my need to have punctuality and agendas for every occasion. The shortness towards unprofessional behaviour from restaurant staff also has become a pet hate of mine, and increased deafness has allowed me to comment on people at a volume level that they will often hear and take offence to. His greatest gift, however, that we all have been given is the sense of humour that has strode us in good stead. But I am proud to be morphing into him, because he was a wonderful man, and a privilege to have as our dad.

The unfortunate thing is, many of these things we only realise after he was gone, but as time goes by, all my thoughts of sadness quickly turn to a smile and laughter. You will never find a prouder Cornishman than Dad, and if we ever went to war against Devon, he would have been on the front line. He was fiercely protective of his friends and family and loved every aspect of his wonderful community of Goldsithney.

In his final years he was devoted to the Little Harbour Children's Hospice and raised thousands of pounds for them. His greatest achievement for the hospice was a general raising of the awareness of it and the fantastic work they do, and we continue to be so proud of what he did for them. He was a fantastic Grandpa and would have made an awesome Great Grandpa this August, as our family continues to grow. For me, Dad's greatest achievement was meeting mum.

The love and respect they had for each other was timeless and is the example we use to base our own lives on. He would be so proud of the way mum has handled his passing, whilst she navigates a life without him. We are all so appreciative of the way the community continues to help mum and cannot thank Goldsithney enough. Dad, you might not be sat in that chair in the conservatory, or on that bench by the pond waiting for us to arrive, but you are never far away from our thoughts. We will love you forever, and please don't be too annoying to Uncle Tony! One and All Dad.

Wendy GREEN

July 15, 2015. Sadly missed. Love Fred
