A top live music venue and bar in Cornwall's nightlife hotspot is closing its doors so the owners can focus on their family. Whiskers, in Newquay, has been up for sale for nearly a year but those in charge have decided to close it imminently.
It's not the first time the decision has been made to close, with difficulties stemming back to 2022 when they said "skyrocketing" costs were causing trading challenges. They opted to close for the winter back then, returning in the busier months.
Now Nicole (Nik) and Jonathan (JG) Grant, who have two young children, say this decision is final as they want to focus on their family and juggling running the popular bar with that has been a challenge. Announcing the news earlier this week, they said they have "cherished every moment" of the past decade and Whiskers will close its doors at the end of the month.

The announcement reads: "Dear Friends and Patrons. It is with mixed emotions that we announce Whiskers will be closing its doors for good on August 31st.
"We have said this before but this time it is a definite. Over the past ten years, we have cherished every moment with our amazing community, but as we've previously shared, balancing the demands of the business with raising our two young children has proven to be too challenging.

"Despite our efforts to adapt and think creatively, we have made the difficult decision to step back from owning our own business. The bar is up for sale at a reduced price through @davidballagencies (see below). We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support, friendship, and all the wonderful memories we've created together.
"Please support us during our final few weeks. If you are one of our original customers that can no longer stay out late then please come early! If you’re young and full of beans then stay all night! Your support during this time will make a huge difference.
"Stay tuned for the announcement of our final night performance on August 31st—it's going to be a night not to be missed! Tickets on sale tomorrow from 5pm." See the listing, here.
