Cornwall Live readers have been reacting to the latest planning applications in Cornwall which include proposals for over 300 new homes in Wadebridge, 25 rentable properties in Downderry, and the demolition of a Bude hotel to make way for 39 retirement flats. The applications aim to address the housing needs in various areas of Cornwall.
Wadebridge could potentially see the development of 325 new homes, including affordable properties, contributing to the market and affordable housing demand in the area.
Churchill Retirement Living (CRL) has applied to demolish the An Mor Hotel in Bude and replace it with retirement living apartments. The proposed site is located in an elevated position above Summerleaze Beach car park, offering a desirable location for retirees seeking an active independent lifestyle.

The development aims to provide safe and secure accommodation for older residents.
Three Seas Cornwall is seeking advice for community-led rented housing development in Downderry, focusing on creating 25 new flats to cater to the housing needs of the local community. The proposal aims to address the shortage of one- and two-bedroom homes in the parish, aiming to fulfil the housing requirements of residents.
St Newlyn East Parish Council has applied to build a new village hall in Mitchell, near Newquay, as the area currently lacks a community facility. The proposed village hall will serve as a community hub, offering multi-use flexible space to meet the long-term needs of the local community.
Other plans for residential developments include up to ten new homes near Rose An Grouse in Canonstown and the conversion of a Methodist chapel in Mawnan Smith into a dwelling and commercial office space. These projects aim to repurpose existing buildings and land for residential and community use.
The planning applications have sparked a variety of reactions from our readers, such as Elizabeththethird, who asked: "Where are all these people going to find a doctor? No point even in asking the same question about dentists!"

Elizabeth Parson added: "No one wants retirement flats with huge maintenance costs. We need smaller retirement houses and bungalows to allow our retirees to downsize the homes they own and make them available to local families because so many of their homes are first-time buyer homes."
Sancia Jane Stafford commented: "Never mind more expensive retirement rubbish. Cater for people who actually need a roof over their heads in Cornwall right now!"
While over our CornwallLive Facebook page, Garry Hill said: "Investment homes, for the rich, as the rental income, is higher than any interest from a savings account."
Casey-lee Gordon asked: "Honestly has anyone looked around at the amount abandoned and derelict buildings just rotting away that could be homes rather than allowing these vile, greedy developers just to destroy what's left of Cornwall's green spaces? Cornwall and the housing crisis is just being used as a cashcow! The buildings are there... just bloody use them!"
"This should be about creating homes for people not making money for the already wealthy! The Council should be forcing development of these buildings or taking them over for social housing themselves. We do not need more buildings!!! Why can't people see that this is just an excuse for the rich to get richer and will not actually benefit local communities. We do not have the infrastructure to support what's already here!"
Eileen Deer said: "Don’t let it happen! Our beautiful island here in Georgia is being ruined because of overbuilding!"
Dawn Collins added: "Cornwall needs MORE hotels so that tourists don’t use holiday lets from wealthy people who buy second homes."
