The man who tragically died in a crash in Penzance has been named locally as Cllr Melville Durrant. Mr Durrant was a councillor in the Penzance East Ward and was the vice-chair of leisure and amenities.
The fatal crash, which involved a white Ford Transit Connect and a white Isuzu Grafter light goods vehicle, took place on the A30 at around 6.45am this morning (Friday, August 2). Devon and Cornwall Police has since confirmed the driver of the Transit, a local man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene by Cornwall Air Ambulance paramedics.
A post on the Penzance Council Facebook page said: "Penzance Council is greatly saddened by the tragic passing of Councillor Melville Durrant. Our deepest condolences to Melville's family at this time."

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a road traffic collision on the A30 at Chyandour, Penzance between Eastern Green and Treneere roundabout at around 6.45am today, Friday 2 August. The collision involved a white Ford Transit Connect and a white Isuzu Grafter light goods vehicle.
"Emergency services were called to the scene and the driver of the Transit, a local man in his 60s, was sadly declared deceased at the scene by paramedics from Cornwall Air Ambulance. His next of kin have been informed.
"Officers from Devon and Cornwall Roads Policing Team attended the incident and carried out a detailed investigation of the scene. Anyone with any relevant information or dash-cam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police via our website or by calling 101 quoting reference log 149 of 02/08/2024."
