Morrisons, Waitrose, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Marks and Spencer have issued warnings about some of their food items recently. The high street grocery chains have been urging customers to double-check their food items and not to consume some of the common items fearing a variety of issues from allergens not noted on the labels to salmonella.

These warnings differ between supermarkets, with each having different procedures for customers to follow if they find they have some of the products in issue, but some products have been recalled across multiple brands.

Asda

The supermarket chain issued an allergen alert about their store-branded Extra Special Sea Salt & Chardonnay Wine Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps 150g. Particularly those with the best-before date of September 21, 2024, and barcode number 5057172821273.

Asda’s warning noted that these packs contain an allergen that has not been mentioned on the label: “This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk.”

People who have this product, with the matching best-before date and barcode number are urged to bring the items back to their nearest Asda to be given a full refund, adding: “You do not need your receipt. No other date codes are affected. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact Asda Customer Relations at 0800 952 0101."

Marks and Spencer

Marks and Spencer has also recalled the same crisps as Asda, as well as Chocolate Cornflake Mini Bites with the barcode number 00347884 and the best-before date of August 6, 2024. This is also an allergen alert due to “the undeclared presence of hazelnut, oats and wheatflour in a small number of packs. No other Chocolate Cornflake Mini Bites are affected. If you wish to exchange the product, you can return it to your nearest store where a full refund will be given.”

Morrisons

Al'Fez Natural Tahini 160g / 270g has been recalled by the manufacturer as a “precautionary step” for all products that are still within its best-before date window due to the potential risk of possible Salmonella presence. No other Al’Fez products have been affected and customers are advised to return their Tahini to the Morrisons store for a full refund and they do not need a receipt.

People who have purchased this item online need to contact the Al’Fez consumer care team on (UK) 0800 0195 617, (ROI) 0044 800 0195 617 or at [email protected]. Tesco and Sainsbury’s have also recalled the Tahini.

Sainsbury's

Sainsbury's has issued a few warnings about some of the items listed above as well as their own store brand Taste the Difference Sea Salt and Suffolk Cider Vinegar Hand Cooked Crisps with the best-before date of October 26, 2024. This is a “precautionary measure” as the product may contain milk which is not highlighted as an allergen on the label and could pose a risk to customers with a milk allergy or intolerance.

People can return these products to their local Sainsbury’s store for a full refund, with or without a receipt. The store is also recalling all of Bfree’s 350g Sunflower & Pumpkin Seed Loaf.

This recall has been prompted by BFree due to the potential presence of peanuts across all of their sunflower and pumpkin seed loaves. The notice explained: "This product has recently undergone a packaging change. We are asking customers who have purchased either packaging style of this product or are allergic to peanuts not to eat it and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury's store, where they will receive a full refund.”

These loaves have also been recalled by Tesco.

Tesco

It’s not just food items being recalled as Tesco has issued a warning for the CocoMelon JJ Interactive Learning Doll as Just Play Products is recalling the product due to a manufacturing defect. The seams reportedly can give way on the doll if a child presses hard enough, meaning the youngster could access the stuffing inside which could present a choking hazard.

The notice warned: “If you have a CocoMelon JJ Interactive Learning Doll, please stop using it immediately. Instead, return it to a Tesco store for a refund. No receipt is required. Use our store locator to find your nearest Tesco.”

Waitrose

Waitrose is recalling its Chocolate Mini Cupcakes 9’s with best before date of July 20, 2024, due to the undeclared presence of walnuts. The supermarket warned: “Do not consume. Package up item. Return the product to your local Waitrose & Partners branch for a refund. We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused."
